PRAIRIE DOG premiere – Lethbridge’s Home Grown Monster Movie

The Gallery at Casa is pleased to present the premiere of PRAIRIE DOG, a local feature film modeled on the monster movies of the 40’s and 50’s. This film pays homage to the practical visual and makeup effects pioneered through the early horror genre. The creature work was attained through a mixture of full-size sculpture, eighth-scale rod puppetry, and miniature elements. The environments and locations, of the fictional Brada County and Sombra Hollow, were brought to life through matte paintings, constructed model work and location photography in and around Southern Alberta.

Headed by Director C. Blake Evernden, a local team of young, energetic cast and crew, have crafted a cinematic ode to old-fashioned monster movies.

Synopsis: A lone sheriff, tasked with watching over the vast lands and valleys of Brada County, is confronted with an environmental aberration that stirs the town, as well as reports of a mysterious animal roaming the surrounding farmlands. As this situation worsens, the sheriff’s two children become more curious of the situation surrounding the town, especially when a local couple disappears from a county football game. With the assistance of an environmental consultant and the mayor of the nearby town of Sombra Hollow, the sheriff races to discover the mystery of the animal that stalks the countryside, before more towns folk, or possibly the sheriff’s children, venture further into harm’s way.
