Biography
Brazilian-Canadian pianist Luciane Cardassi is a noted performer of new music.  For more than two decades she has been exploring the contemporary music world through collaboration and performance. She holds a Doctorate in Contemporary Music Performance from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), a Master’s Degree in Music from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of São Paulo (USP). Her artistic practice has been generously funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, CAPES Brazil Foundation, and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

Among Luciane’s long-term projects is her multimedia programme “Going North” with music by Brazilian and Canadian composers.  Beyond her solo work, Luciane is the pianist of rockeys duo, with harpsichordist Katelyn Clark, in which they explore this unusual combination of instruments – often with electronics – through improvisation, and collaboration with composers.

Luciane is currently a Visiting Professor in the Graduate Studies Music Faculty at the Federal University of Bahia, in Salvador, Brazil.
