Music Inspired by Movies

After many requests, the moment music and film fans have been waiting for is finally here: Music Inspired by the Movies presented by the U of L Wind Orchestra, hits the University Theatre Dec. 3, at 7:30 pm.

From Western Classics to Fantasia’s Rhapsody in Blue, director Dr. Chee Meng Low promises a little something for everyone with this fun and exciting concert. “We’ve had many requests for the Wind Orchestra to play a concert with repertoire that is exciting and recognizable for members of the audience,” he says.

The main highlight of the concert is in celebration of the upcoming new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens. The Wind Orchestra harkens back by playing five movements from the original Star Wars movie series.

“The pieces are fun, but hard to play,” explains Low. “The people in the audience will know the music, so we have to play it as they are expecting to hear it.” He says the 61 students in the orchestra have their work cut out for them as they try to capture the essence of the movie with each piece they play. “They need to think about the story; the visual parts in the film. As the movements change so does the feeling.”

With special guests Dr. Deanna Oye on piano and the U of L Brass Choir, Music Inspired by the Movies will have you humming all the way home.
