Tous les matins du monde (All the Mornings of the World) (France, Alain Corneau, 1991). The once-celebrated viola de gamba player Sainte-Colombe has retreated after the death of his wife. His daughters are his only pupils, but a young virtuoso appears requesting lessons. Between the master’s shack and the court of Louis XIV, the young musician refines his technique, while neglecting his soul. (In French with English subtitles)
