Medical Assistance in Dying: Current and Future Problems
Profs. Bryson Brown and Michael Stingl (Department of Philosophy)
Wednesday, February 13 2019
7:30 p.m.
TH-204 (Turcotte Hall, University of Lethbridge)

Philosophy professors Bryson Brown and Michael Stingl will lead a discussion on the recent report (December 2018) of The Expert Panel on Medical Assistance in Dying.  The Panel examined three contentious areas of the current legislation involving situations where MAID is not allowed: advance directives, mature minors and where suffering arises from mental disorders.  The discussion will also consider the Latimer case, which involved an individual incapable of consenting to MAID but whose medical condition was arguably of a kind that would have justified withdrawal of lifesaving treatment, had that been a possibility.
