Making Sense of Relational Trauma

Join us as we explore what trauma is, how it impacts individuals and communities, and how each of us can be a compassionate support for ourselves or others who’ve been impacted by it.

Presenter: Heather Rowland 

Heather is a clinical social worker and registered yoga teacher who has been active in the world of gender based violence as an activist, yoga teacher and as a trauma informed therapist. Upon completing her masters she had the privledge of working in a strengths based feminist women's refuge in Australia, and upon returning to Canada began her current role as a counsellor at the U of L. Since being at the U of L she has undertaken many initiatives including advocating heavily for a campus sexual violence policy, co-chairing the preventing sexual violence action committee, coordinating programming to address sexual and relationship violence on campus, co-facilitating the on-campus peer to peer Stepping Up Program and co facilitating the AASAS First Responder Training. She also has been a key player in bringing Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga to the community in her work with survivors, and often does Contract work in the community offering therapeutic and yoga groups for survivors of interpersonal violence and trauma.
