AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Prepare a one-two minute monologue from the work of Oscar Wilde or George Bernard Shaw. In addition to this, prepare one of the selected audition scenes.  Audition scenes will be announced and made available on September 1.  Copies of Earnest are already available for short-term loan in the U of L library.  Choose a scene that includes a character that you would like to audition for. A reader will be provided for your audition. You do not need to pair up with another actor auditioning for the play.  Scenes do not need to be memorized, but you are expected to be as familiar as possible with the scene.

The Importance of Being Earnest is a dialect play. All actors will need to speak with a British RP (Received Pronunciation) dialect. RP is sometimes referred to as the Queen’s English or Posh. Please choose either your monologue or audition scene to demonstrate your best British RP. We are looking for aptitude, so just do your best. Dialect coaching will be provided as part of the rehearsal process. Knowing your aptitude with the RP dialect will be helpful to the Director during the casting process.
