Living With the Earth System
Prof. Kent Peacock (Department of Philosophy)
Date:  September 13, 2019
Location:  C-640
Time:  3 p.m.

In the age of Trump and Bolsonaro, as the Amazon and Arctic burn and the icecaps crumble, is it even conceivable that humanity could craft a relationship with the earth system that was sustainable? The notion of sustainability is hard to define, but we can take it that at a minimum it means something that is not self-subverting. In this talk, I will outline a conception of sustainability based on an analysis of the biology and biophysics of symbiosis, and sketch prospects for moving toward that state.

Everyone is welcome.
