Let’s Talk About Music Series presents “Anton Bruckner and Edvard Grieg”

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

7:00 – 9:00pm

Penner Classroom at CASA (230 8th Street South)

In the context of our Let's Talk About Music Series, Brian Black, Ph.D., discusses masterpieces of classical music.

The first talk in this series looks at two major works in the standard orchestral repertory - Anton Bruckner’s imposing Fourth Symphony and Edvard Grieg’s ever-popular Peer Gynt Suites, which will be featured in the opening concert of the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra. Bruckner’s Fourth is one of his most impressive symphonies. We will first explore his life and the circumstances surrounding the Symphony’s composition, then discuss the work itself and the qualities that make it such an enduring and compelling piece of music. For Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suites, not only will we situate them in the context of his life achievements, but we will also look at Ibsen’s original play and discuss how the music fits the dramatic situations it portrays.

If you are interested in attending this talk, please register by emailing music.conservatory@uleth.ca or by calling the Conservatory of Music at (403)329-2304.

Admission is by donation to our scholarship program, which supports children who study at the Conservatory of Music.
