The exhibition, Intimacy, is being held in conjunction with the FLIP Fest music and arts festival at the Dr. Foster James Penny Building in downtown Lethbridge. The festival is a celebration of women, femmes, and gender non-conforming artists and aims to provide a safer, inclusive space for all.
Intimacy is a group exhibition featuring artworks by a diverse selection of women, femmes, and gender non-conforming artists whose artistic practices centre on corporeal representation and bodily self-image and representation as they inform the process of identity formation. Gender stereotyping and explorations of intimacy, self-care, and self-love run through many of the artworks on display.
Headlining musicians Kimmortal and Witch Prophet will perform in the exhibition space on Saturday, August 25 beginning at 10:00 pm, alongside Cartel Madras and Linqua Franqa. These musicians explore a multitude of powerful perspectives using hip-hop, R&B, jazz, poetry and experimental sounds.
The exhibition features a number of emerging artists for whom this is their first exhibition, as well as more established and long-standing members of the art community in Lethbridge. We are honoured to be able to provide this exhibition opportunity for all artists involved.
Work by featured artist Mahlet Cuff, as well as Afrooz Moatari-Kazerouni, Angeline Simon, April Matisz, Arianna Richardson, Brookelyn Shimbashi, Carlan Hughes, Courtney Faulkner, Echo Vieira, Hana Falconer, Jamie Lewis, Kasia Sosnowski, katie marie bruce, Laurel Scott, Marian Godfrey, Meghan MacWhirter, oualie frost, Shanell Papp, Stephanie Wilson, and Tess Mitchell.
Opening Reception is Friday, August 24 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. The exhibition runs from August 24 to September 14 at the Dr. Foster James Penny Building (324 - 5 Street S), regular gallery hours are Mon-Fri 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
