What would people do when giving the opportunity to represent themselves? What would happen if that representation is a movie? And what kind of movie would result if these people are adolescents from low income areas in Caracas, Venezuela?

These are some of the questions this research is trying to respond. Working with a local NGO, the TAAP foundation, three video workshops were delivered in the municipality of El Hatillo in Caracas between October 2015 and June 2016.

Thirty two adolescents aged fifteen to eighteen registered; thirteen completed the workshops. They were asked to create movies about any aspects of their realities. The result were three short fictional videos and a short documentary.
This talk will present an overview of the project and its foundation in the theories of popular and imperfect cinema

developed in Latin America in the 1960’s. It will also present a brief analysis of the films aesthetics and narrative forms and their ideological implications against the background of a country in the middle of a social, economic and political crisis.
