Description:
A love of mathematics brought me to the University of Lethbridge where I thought I would become a teacher. Because that is what women who are good at math do, right? Obviously not, but it is what my high school counsellor convinced me of when I was 17. Fortunately, with mentorship from University of Lethbridge's own Dr. Shelly Wismath, a course in computing from her husband, Dr. Stephen Wismath, and an internship with the Government of Canada, I discovered my true calling, Cybersecurity. I will walk you through the ups and downs of being a woman in cybersecurity and share with you why I love the field so much. In the end, I will explain how ransomware works and demo what it looks like when a computer is getting ransomed.

Dinah Davis is responsible for the development of the AWN CyberSOC product.
She has over 16 years of experience in the tech industry with time spent as a Security Software Developer at
the Communications Security Establishment Canada and BlackBerry, and as a manager at TrustWave and D2l. She also founded codelikeagirl.io, a publication, whose goal it is to change society's perceptions of how women are viewed in technology.
