Some Music As I See It:
Composition, Transcription, and Improvisation in New Work by Jeff Morton

Visiting artist Jeff Morton speaks and performs in the new series Crossing Boundaries: Keynote Conversations in Fine Arts at 7 pm, Thursday, February 5, in the ATB Financial Community Room at Casa.  He unveils his new music compositions, including a quartet for amplified brass objects, and an electroacoustic performance with solo drums.  In a candid presentation, Jeff relates stories and documentation from recent sound installations, live shows, recording projects, and other curiosities. In total, the effect is playful, noisy, funny, melodic, and always personal. The work merges elements of contemporary composition, sound art, noise jams, electroacoustic music, programming, and DIY or recycled technologies for live performance.  During his visit on-campus, he meets with students, is providing an artist’s talk and performance in Art NOW, and is delivering a keynote address in the inaugural Fine Arts Graduate Colloquium.
