Violinist Airdrie Robinson and pianist John-Paul Ksiazek will be giving a recital at 7:30 pm on Thursday, July 28th, 2016 in the ATB Financial Community Room at Casa230 8thSt S. Lethbridge, AB. Instead of tickets, audience members are free to pay what they like or not at all if times are tight. Airdire and John-Paul are giving this recital to mark the end of the University of Lethbridge Conservatory's Fiddle Camp, which will be wrapping up earlier that afternoon.

The first half will include two charming pieces, Dvorak's Violin Sonatina and Beethoven's “Spring” Sonata. Dvorak's Sonatina is practically a mini version of his famous “New World” Symphony, blending American folk songs with Eastern European colour. Those who know Beethoven as the frowning composer of the stormy fifth and epic ninth symphonies will get to see his lighter side in the “Spring” Sonata, full of beautiful melodies and good cheer.

The second half is a complete contrast with Brahms' Violin Sonata in D minor, as it struggles between anguish and hope. The first movement is almost psychotic in its constant shifting between incredible beauty and complete despair. The second movement is too beautiful for words, but the third movement obsessively returns to the struggle of the first. The sonata closes with an exhilarating finale.
