1st Mainstage of the University of Lethbridge, Department of Drama Season: inVISIBLE (Too)
A Collective Creation
Facilitated by visiting artists: Makambe K. Simamba & Kathryn Smith
Rehearsals: September 7 – October 8, 2018
Production Run: October 9 – October 13, 2018
The first mainstage of the University of Lethbridge season is a brand new collective creation entitled inVISIBLE (Too). Based on the structure used by Handsome Alice Theatre’s production inVISIBLE, this is a multidisciplinary devised theatre piece. Guest Artists Makambe K Simamba and Kathryn Smith (who were in the original creation process of inVISIBLE in Calgary) will act as facilitators and collaborators in this community minded experience.
inVISIBLE (Too) is not a traditional play, but a happening - a unique sharing of space, stories, and existence.
There are no set ‘roles’ for inVISIBLE (Too). We intend to cast a diverse group of people of all backgrounds, genders, abilities. A starting point of our exploration is the question, “What does it mean to be human?” and we intend to explore that with a focus on the perspectives of female identified people, people of colour, and members of the LGBTQQIP2SAA community.
Participants will be encouraged to share personal stories and be unapologetically themselves during this piece. We prioritize a safe and nurturing space where communication and consent are key. It is our intention to cast 8 to 10 participants. Both performers and non-performers are encouraged to apply.

What to expect/prepare for the audition:
We would love to take this opportunity to get to know you. We ask you to prepare something 2 to 3 minutes long in response to the prompt: What I want you to know about me is….
Please respond and share however you want. Here are some of the ways in which we welcome an response:
- A piece of music
- A story (real or fictional)
- A movement piece
- A piece or writing
- Visual Art
Feel free to think outside the box…or not. We invite you to focus on being authentic, rather than impressive. We ask you to share your heart, in whatever way makes sense to you.
We will be sharing these responses in a group setting. Please come prepared to move and prepared to write, as we will likely explore other prompts during our time together.
It is our intention to cast a group of individuals who are willing to be open and work cohesively in an ensemble.
