This event is from the archives of The Notice Board. The event has already taken place and the information contained in this post may no longer be relevant or accurate.

Tanya Doody will discuss her research and extended practice centering on ceramics.

Tanya Doody is a Canadian artist working in a variety of media including performance, video, and sculpture. Her work revolves around craftivist strategies, performative acts, and poetic gestures.

Her work can often take the form of one-on-one encounters with the viewer-turned-participant, centering on actions mediated by handmade ceramic objects.

“My work poses the question: can an object outside of the body be a catalyst for producing renewed strategies of embodiment? In search of different and poetic uses for objects, paths are traced that lead back to the body. I often employ ceramics, a material traditionally used in the production of functional items for human use, as a way to re-connect the body to its environment, the bodies of others, and itself.”

Tanya holds an MFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University (NSCAD) in Fine and Media Arts, a BFA (Honours) from University of Victoria in Visual Arts, a Diploma from Sheridan College in Crafts and Design (major in Ceramics), and a Certificate of Fine Crafts (Ceramics) from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.
