Mandy Espezel is a Canadian artist originally from Fort McMurray, Alberta. They received a BFA from the University of Alberta in 2007, and an MFA from the University of Lethbridge in 2012. Espezel has participated in numerous exhibitions and residencies within Canada, and has received support for their work from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Canada Council for the Arts. Recent solo exhibitions within Canada include the exhibitions “Pine Cones in Soft Mouths” at Casa Public Art Gallery, and “HEY NOW(s), WELLNESS CHECK(s), and other improbable obsessions” at Harcourt House Gallery. International residencies and exhibitions include “slipping into & against” with Studio PRÁM in Prague, Czech Republic; “Drip and Tickle: nothing ever is not true, nothing ever is always real” at Space Gachang Art Gallery, Gachang Art Studio in Korea; and “A Few Haptic Possibilities” at Trükimuuseum Gallery, with Tartu Artist in Residence in Estonia. Espezel is a recurrent sessional instructor at the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College, and is based in Lethbridge, AB. Their upcoming solo exhibition with the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, “Body Longing”, runs from May 8 to June 20, 2021.
