Bart Willis is a tattooer living in Austin, Texas.  He grew up in Lethbridge and went to the University of Lethbridge in the 1980s.  Bart moved to Austin in 1990 with the crazy notion that he was going to become a rock star.  That didn’t happen.  What did happen was that the tattoo bug that he had caught in Alberta turned into a calling that became a career in the early nineties.  At a time when tattooing was still risqué and underground Bart honed his craft by tattooing anywhere people wanted tattoos; boats, back porches, parties, the Ringling Brothers circus train …eventually in 2002 he opened his own shop in Austin, Southside Tattoo.  It is one of the best respected, busiest, and coolest shops in a city that is full of tattoo shops.  Bart ‘s reputation is also built on his long time relationship with the Haida of the West Coast of Canada.  His body of work is heavily influenced by the artistic styles of Native North America and that of other Pacific Rim cultures and he is developing a style melding these that he calls Pacific Fusion tattooing.  Bart feels very fortunate to be a part of tattoo renaissances in both indigenous and western culture and is enthused to be able to share his knowledge and experience at the University of Lethbridge.
