Beyond the Man-Made World

Like it or not, the world we live in has been made by men. Not only has it been men who had largely decreed, designed, and constructed the human-made world, but their buildings reflect values we associate with masculinity. Within that world, women have been forced to make a world that focus on other values, but has a limited scope. Over the last few decades, our world has become more diverse, but the man-made world still dominates in all ways. That also means that the world of architecture and interiors is still split. How can we move beyond this inheritance of several millennia? Perhaps by looking at a third space, and at the history of what used to be called the “third sex” to see what contributions queer men and women have made to rethinking inside, outside, and their relation.
