Everyone is welcome

Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) is a mosquito borne negative sense RNA virus that is a potent human and livestock pathogen. Its small genome encodes only seven proteins, one of them is the structural nucleocapsid protein, N. The canonical functions of N are to protect the viral genome, to aid in selection of RNA to be packaged into budding virions, and to regulate the expression of the various viral RNAs during infection. However, during infection of mammalian cells, N was found to interact abundantly with a select subset of cellular RNAs, including the C/D-class of small nucleolar RNAs. The structural determinants as well as the functional consequences of this interaction will be discussed.
