PAST/FORWARD begins under the premise that the means and methods of how we build or ‘make’ architecture, and by extension the city, no longer resides within the prevue of the architect but rather the developer, the contractor and the politician. The lingering effect is a system in which architects are influenced more by contractors and building systems than the other way around, relinquishing influence, relevance, expertise, risk and profit. This has dire consequences for the way we envision and ultimately construct the city.
