Southern Alberta Vocal Experience (SAVE)

SAVE 2019: ANNOUNCEMENT

Launched in 2009, the Southern Alberta Vocal Experience (SAVE) has become a very well known intensive summer vocal institute for young musicians in the art of vocal and opera performance.  It has been a pleasure to share our love of music with so many young vocalists.

This all said, SAVE will not run this summer, 2019.  It is of course a decision that was made after a lot of consultation and discussion.  For some of you, no explanation will suffice, and we acknowledge that it may feel like something important is being lost in our community.  For almost 10 years, this program has been so important to the Conservatory, the Department of Music and to the University of Lethbridge.  Many young SAVE students have gone on to pursue music at post-secondary institutions, and for that, we are very proud.  It is possible that SAVE will be back again in the future, but at this point, we do not know.

At the root of this decision, we acknowlegded that each of our programs deserves our time and attention.  Overall, our programs have seen substantial growth over the last 5 years, and in particular, we have a new academy program (YAMA) that is very intensive, and growing bigger in scope and numbers with each passing year.  We felt that it was time to reposition our focus and resources, to continue to allow growth in as many areas as possible.

To you -- our valued SAVE participants and supporters -- we restate our commitment to the community and to our students by saying that our core ideals remain inviolate: we will continue to focus on nurturing student-centric offerings within our programming suite, and strive to meet the needs of the community and the needs of each of our students.

If SAVE was an important part of your summer music plans, we would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.  Private lessons through the Conservatory are available in the summer (based on instructor availability) and there are also many other summer vocal programs throughout the country that we may be able to recommend.
