IT Services will assist with:

  • Installing University-supported standard software on work computers for which a license has already been obtained.
  • Acquiring new software licenses and/or provisioning existing licenses. 
  • Providing general information and consultation about available software and associated licenses. 
  • Updating and maintaining software installed on work computers to ensure it is working as expected within the campus environment.

All desktop and laptop computers arrive at the University pre-installed with the most current operating systems available to the public.

Upon arrival, the machines are sent to Desktop Support where ITS technicians then install the University's campus-licensed software, along with any additional software purchased by an individual or department.

The U of L also has campus-wide licenses for some software that can be installed upon request on UofL barcoded machines. These licenses are limited in number because not all employees require them to perform their jobs.

PC/Windows

 The following software is installed automatically on new Windows machines:

  • Microsoft Office 2016 Professional Plus (x86)
  • Mozilla Firefox ESR
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro DC
  • Adobe Flash Player
  • Adobe Shockwave Player
  • Oracle Java JRE (if Windows x64 is chosen, then you get x86 and x64 versions of the JRE)
  • Apple QuickTime
  • FileZilla FTP Client

Optional software installations (through campus licenses):

  • Adobe CC Master Collection (replaces Adobe Acrobat)
  • Cisco AnyConnect VPN
  • Cisco Jabber (instant messaging tool)
  • EndNote X8
  • NVivo 11
  • Maple 2016 (x86 or x64)
  • SPSS 24 (x86 or x64)

Mac

The following software is installed automatically on new Macs:

  • MS Office 2016
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro DC
  • Firefox ESR (current version)
  • EndNote 8

Optional software installations (through campus licenses):

  • Adobe CC Master Collection (replaces Adobe Acrobat)
  • SPSS 24
  • Maple 2016
  • NVivo 11
  • Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

Available upon license purchase through Materials Management:

  • FileMaker Pro
  • Other software as requested/purchased
How do I request this service?: 

Unless the machine is new, most software can be installed remotely over the phone. Please call the Solutions Centre (403) 329-2490 when you are at the computer on which you need software installed. If you require the software on a laptop, you can also drop the laptop off at the  Solutions Centre (TH218).

What is the cost for this service?: 

There is no cost for this service as it is funded by the University.

 Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
