Fall Semester 2020 Updates

As we plan for fall 2020, while continuing to closely monitor guidelines from Alberta Government Public Health Officials, the health and safety of our students, staff and community remains our top priority.

Please note that guidance and directives relating to COVID-19 change frequently, and we will continue to follow advice from Public Health Officials and government guidelines.

At this time, reduced residence accommodations will be available for first year and returning students for 2020-2021, subject to directives from Provincial Public Health officials. As we finalize our Housing plans for the fall semester, we will continue to keep our students and community informed. Updates will be posted on our website and on social media channels as they become available.

We are grateful for your patience as we continue to plan for what comes next in U of L Housing Accommodations during this challenging time.

 

 

At this time, the U of L Housing Services Department plans that residence will be open at a reduced occupancy for fall 2020, subject to directives from Government Public Health Officials. We encourage all interested students to apply online.

Yes, refunds will be provided. Please contact Housing Services at housing@uleth.ca so that we can process your refund. Please complete your Direct Deposit information on your Bridge account.

 

Please contact Housing Services at housing@uleth.ca so that we can remove you from the 2020-2021 waitlist. Please be advised that you have the option to transfer your housing application to the January/Spring semester waitlist.

Yes, please notify Housing Services at housing@uleth.ca to indicate that you would like to defer your fall housing application to the spring term.

Housing Services will provide you with a housing deposit refund for the fall and will place you on the waitlist as a top priority for a possible offer of accommodation for January 2021, subject to directives from Public Health officials.

Please contact Housing Services at housing@uleth.ca after June 15th, once the preliminary course delivery method has been announced, and we can add you to the priority list for housing accommodations. Please note that this is all subject to directives from Government Public Health Officials.

At this time, the plan is for a reduced residence capacity. There has been no directive regarding the specific residence facilities or capacity plans at this time. We are monitoring government directives daily while adhering to safety guidelines provided.

At this time, Housing Services has set aside units for self-isolation purposes. If you are traveling or may need to isolate upon arrival, please contact Housing Services at housing@uleth.ca

Please contact Housing Services to indicate that you would like to remain on the waitlist for a potential offer of accommodation, subject to directives from Government Public Health Officials. We thank you for your patience during this challenging time.

Residence programming will focus primarily on online and limited outdoor gatherings with activities such as Netflix parties and video chats; Student staff will focus on building community through virtual means. While we strive to create a valuable community experience, please be aware that guests will not be permitted in residence, common spaces including licensed spaces will be closed (as directed by public health officials), residence students will not have access to other residence facilities, and residence will be operating at a reduced capacity.     

All residence students and other community members will be encouraged and may be required to wear masks in common hallways. Enhanced cleaning measures will ensure high touch points are frequently disinfected. Guests will not be permitted in residence, common spaces including licensed spaces will be closed (as directed by public health officials), residence students will not have access to other residence facilities, and residence will be operating at a reduced capacity.       

 

 

The Housing Services office will be open to serve students on weekdays. Outside of business hours, student staff are well trained to support students and well versed in campus resources. They can be reached via telephone when the Housing Services’ office is closed.  

 

Spring Semester 2020 Updates

 

The University of Lethbridge Housing Services’ top priority is providing a safe and supportive residence experience to all our students.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Lethbridge announced that residence would be closed for the health and safety of students and the community. At this time, we are actively monitoring the situation and will provide information as we receive it from the proper authorities. We assure you that our residence buildings will be open and safely operating once the Government and the University determine that it is safe to do so. As of now, we are planning to provide comfortable and safe housing for the fall semester, and look forward to continuing to support you in succeeding academically, forging friendships and accessing resources on campus.

Yes, the Housing and Finance department have prepared prorated refunds. This prorated amount will be returned to your student account as a credit, unless you contact the cash office directly to have a refund cheque mailed out.

This also applies to Parking and Dining Plan fee credits.

*Please note that Security Deposits will be mailed out to ALL residents

Yes, Food services will refund a prorated amount of your dining plan fee in accordance with the Dining Plan Contract refund guidelines. This prorated amount will be returned to your student account as a credit, unless you contact the cash office directly to have a refund cheque mailed out.

We will make arrangements for any students remaining in Residence after the 2019-2020 Housing contract ends to continue to stay in residence past the end of term. A process has been developed and all current residents should contact Housing with these requests. Please contact housing@uleth.ca to inquire about staying past the Spring 2020 Housing Contract.

Our Housing team will respond to urgent maintenance requests, provide support through our office staff and provide other helpful support resources. Please email your questions to housing@uleth.ca .

The Housing Office is physically closed; however, the office team is working regular business hours from home and are available to answer your email questions (Monday – Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30PM).

Campus Safety continues to provide service 24 hours 7 days a week – For on campus emergencies please call 403-329-2345.

The University is currently closed. Belongings can no longer be picked up. Our team will ensure that your belongings are safe and secure until you are able to safely retrieve them. Please email housing@uleth.ca to let us know that you have left your belongings in your unit.

While we hope your unit was left in a clean and undamaged move out condition, we realize that not all of you were able to clean your unit to the past standard move out condition requirements. Our team will still be inspecting the units for excessive damages, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in a residence evacuation, we will not be assessing cleaning charges to our normal standard.

Our current Housing cancellation policies are in effect. We are closely monitoring the COVID -19 pandemic situation and any changes that may be implemented to our policies by the University as a result. Providing safe, clean and comfortable on-campus accommodations is the top priority of University of Lethbridge Housing Services. Housing Services continues to work closely with relevant authorities to ensure that our policies and procedures continue to support the efforts of Alberta Health Services.

Our Housekeeping & Maintenance team has increased their cleaning and disinfection efforts in all residence buildings, especially focusing on high-touch points and high-traffic areas (e.g. washrooms, door handles, stairwells, etc.)

Students remaining on campus have been advised regarding physical distancing expectations and have been in contact with our Residence Life team to ensure everyone is staying healthy. All in-person events have been cancelled for the summer term and Residence Life programming to the residence community will be delivered remotely.

Log on to the Bridge and go to your Student Account and Select the Direct Deposit tab.  You can then enter your banking details and your Security Deposit will be refunded to that Bank Account.   Refunds are scheduled to go out on May 21, 2020.  

To support physical distancing measures, guest privileges in residence are currently suspended. We appreciate your co-operation.

If you experience flu-like symptoms, with a fever while living in residence, please stay home and avoid exposing others to your illness.  Contact your family doctor or call Alberta Health Link at 811 and register online on the Student Illness Registry. Please advise Housing Services at housing@uleth.ca so we are informed of the situation and of your health professional’s advice.
