Our institution is a member of the Postsecondary Education Partnership — Alcohol Harm (PEP-AH).  PEP-AH is a group of universities and colleges from across Canada, partnered with the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA, formerly the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse) and Universities Canada. This partnership is focused on supporting nation-wide campus efforts to reduce the harms related to alcohol consumption.

PEP-AH members are using an evidence-based framework that includes five strategic areas, recommended initiatives and measurement indicators, to develop action plans for alcohol harm reduction on their campuses. PEP-AH members come together to share knowledge, expertise and the results of their ongoing efforts to reduce alcohol-related harms.

The Acadia Strang Report

The U of L is utilizing reccomendations from the Acadia Strang Report. This paper presents a framework that can be used to implement programs and policies that can serve to reduce alcohol harms among the university student population.

The framework focuses on three types of interventions:

  1. those that seek to reduce the demand for alcohol and individual harms that can result from heavy drinking (individual);
  2. those that focus on reducing the supply of alcohol to the individual (environmental);
  3. those that require policy changes outside of the specific university context (systems).
