Dr. James Oshiro

New Chancellor –

At its regular meeting held Saturday March 11 the University Senate observed the completion of the term of Chief Judge L.S. Turcotte as the University’s first Chancellor and the installation of the new Chancellor. Dr. James Oshiro is a prominent general practitioner in Coaldale and was born in Kenora, Ontario. Following a military career which included active service in the Canadian Army during the Second World War, he attended the University of Manitoba to complete his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1952. He and his wife have three daughters, one of whom is presently attending the University of Lethbridge. Active in civic affairs, Dr. Oshiro has served on the Coaldale Town Council and the School Committee of the County of Lethbridge. As a member of the United Church of Canada he has represented his congregation in the Southern Alberta Presbytery. Dr. Oshiro has served on the University of Lethbridge Senate and is at present a member of the Board of Governors.
