- Madeline Szabo
Madeline Szabo

As a hammer thrower with uLethbridge’s Pronghorns track and field team, Madeline Szabo is used to hauling heavy weights. But thanks to the various scholarships she’s received since coming to uLethbridge, financing her education is one burden she doesn’t have to carry.
In 2019, the third year Neuroscience student received the School of Liberal Education’s Volunteer Award, for her academic performance and strong record of volunteer activity with organizations and events including the Chinook Regional Hospital, Big Brothers Big Sisters, All Saints Parish, coaching and mentoring young athletes and numerous commitments with Pronghorn Athletics. In 2018, Madeline was one of the recipients of the first ever Muthada Boora Family Awards. This prize is awarded based on grades, volunteer work and an essay on the value of liberal education.
“I am thankful for all of the incredible awards I have been lucky enough to receive,” says Madeline. “The generosity of donors ensures that I can continue to excel in school, work toward my dream of becoming a Team Canada hammer thrower. I also have time to give back to my community without having to stress about finances.”
Madeline plans to combine her passion for science and helping people to pursue a career in medicine.
“Neuroscience gives me the science background I need to do well on an MCAT and excel in a medical setting. I also feel that having a liberal education will give me a competitive edge in my field.”
