Program description

For the M.A. program, students are required to complete courses, a thesis, and a thesis oral Defence. Three to six graduate term courses or equivalent are required for this program. Students develop their programs in consultation with their supervisors. Course descriptions of courses offered at the University of Lethbridge are available in the course catalogue. Both the M.Sc. and M.A. in Psychology are research-based programs that train students in research methods and data analysis in the Psychological Sciences. The goal of both programs is to train high-quality researchers and prepare students for Ph.D. programs in Psychology and related disciplines. The main difference between the programs is the area of focus. M.Sc. Psychology students focus on evolutionary and mechanistic approaches to psychology, whereas student in the M.A. Psychology program focus on social and humanistic approaches to Psychology. Applicants should discuss which program is appropriate for them with their prospective supervisor.

Potential applicants who are interested in clinical practice should consider the M.Ed. Counselling Psychology and Master of Counselling programs.
