LINVILLE, JAMES

Title:
Associate Professor

Disciplines:

Research Expertise:

My primary research interests lay in the diverse fields of Hebrew Bible studies. I am particularly interested in integrating historical and literary analysis of both narrative and prophetic writings in the Hebrew Bible. This work has resulted in a monograph on the book of King as a statements of ethnic, national and religious identity for Persian-era Judaism, arguing that this identity is portrayed as relevant not only to those living in the Judah, but to those who remained in the Diaspora. I have also written a number of articles dealing with the dating of Kings, the need for a new approach to prophetic literature, and literary studies of the books of Amos and Joel and Psalm 22. A commentary on the book of Amos, entitled "Amos and the Cosmic Imagination" is in the final stages of preparation for Ashgate Publishers.
