Mainstage and TheatreXtra Auditions

The Drama Department has an open audition policy in respect to the season presented. Preference will be given to BFA- Dramatic Arts students. 

Audition dates for all department productions are posted here and may, in addition, be posted at other locations both on and off campus. If at all possible, audition information should be posted two weeks before auditions. 

Style and format of auditions are left to the Director's discretion, however, all persons wishing to audition for a department production are required to: 

  • Read the play in its entirety before auditioning.
  • Sign up for an audition time, if applicable.
  • Come to the audition prepared; specific requirements will be posted on audition notices.

  • Students are asked to come prepared with two monologues for this audition: one contemporary and one classical, from Shakespeare’s canon of plays.
  • All students participating in the first round of auditions will be considered for roles in both A Lie of the Mind and Titus Andronicus and you must audition for both productions.
  • Those interested in auditioning should sign up for an audition time at the bulletin boards behind the box office on level 5.

Audition info

General auditions will take place Tuesday, October 29 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in W-425 (David Spinks Theatre).  Auditions for In Tongues will be occurring at the same time and location.

Auditions will be done individually in 5 minute time slots and will consist of the presentation of two prepared and memorized contrasting contemporary monologues that demonstrate your acting abilities and range.  The total performance time of both monologues should be no longer than 3 minutes total. Actors must sign up in advance for one of the 5 minute audition slots; the sign up sheet will be on the door of W718 by Friday, Oct 11.

In addition, each actor should provide two copies of each of the following:
1) A typed performance resume listing: Contact information, previous roles (indicating director(s) and the theatre/context of the production), current and completed drama classes, special talents/skills, any other relevant information.
2) A recent 8 x 10 photograph; this does not need to be a formal “head shot”, but should show at least your whole face but no more than your face and upper body. Inkjet printed on 8 1/2 x 11 paper is adequate.
3) A schedule of evening (5PM to 11PM) and weekend (9AM to 11PM) availablility from December 15, 2019 to March 21, 2020.

The play is on reserve in the library under Drama Production.

Now that school has started, there is an audition sign up sheet outside of W401.

For the audition, please prepare a short piece relating to the theme of the show; young women and the power of words. This piece can be absolutely anything performative, from poetry to dance to original monologues, or existing monologues that you find inspiring! Get creative! Risk is rewarded.  Additionally, be prepared for a brief discussion regarding the aforementioned themes.  Please show up to your audition slot ten minutes beforehand for a quick photo op and to fill out necessary paperwork. Please be warmed up and ready to go.

Don’t want to act but still want to be involved? We have design/technical opportunities as well! Email theatre.xtra@uleth.ca to let us know how you’d like to be involved - no experience is required.”

For the audition, please prepare a one-two minute comedic monologue of your choice. Please be prepared to have a short discussion about one of the following topics: Vanity, Money, Sexual Conquest or Social Media.  Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled audition in time to complete an audition form. Note that each audition will be five minutes long.

Audition Requirements No need to prepare, but if you do have a monologue ready we would be happy to see it.  Please try to arrive at 10, if that's not possible come as soon as you can, and be prepared to stay for the entire audition period if you are able.

The Rossland Gold Fever Follies Auditions:

WHERE: Rossland, BC
WHAT: A historical musical theatre summer show based on the gold rush days of the 1890s
ACTOR’S SALARY: a guaranteed salary of $6000 for the season (PLUS free accommodation for non-locals)
SEASON: June 2 - August 24, 2020
ALL AUDITIONS SHOULD INCLUDE:
1. short monologue
2. song of your choice (with accompaniment) PLUS the Canadian Anthem sung a cappella
