Technical Information

The capacity of the videoconferencing room B716 is 30 people. The core of our Videoconferencing system is a Tandberg 6000 and also includes Access Grid (AG) technology. The following is a summary of the four unique functions that the videoconferencing room serves:

IP-Based Videoconferencing

  • This is our preferred method of video conferencing as we are connected to the CANet4 Research Network and the Alberta SuperNet in addition to our corporate Internet connection. IP-based videoconferencing allows us to connect to remote sites without incurring long distance charges.

  • Using IP-based videoconferencing, we are able to connect at up to 3Mbps but usually connect to most sites at 768Kbps.

  • This technology allows for up to 4 different sites to connect to each other simultaneously. It is also possible to connect both IP and ISDN calls simultaneously.

  • B716 is our designated videoconferencing suite. Our E.164 address is 3310234@142.66.2.200

ISDN-Based Videoconferencing

  • We are currently able to connect at a maximum of 256Kbps over ISDN phone lines. This may increase to 768K in the summer of 2003. It should be noted that ISDN-based video conferencing incurs long distance charges.

  • The ISDN connection may also be used as a backup if our IP connection fails for some reason.

  • This technology allows for up to 4 different sites to connect to each other simultaneously. However, we are currently restricted to 256kbps over ISDN and that bandwidth must be shared between all connected sites. It is also possible to connect both IP and ISDN calls simultaneously.

  • Our ISDN phone number is: 403-331-0234. (The following are the other 3 ISDN numbers that should not be required: 403-331-0235; 403-317-1678; 403-317-1679).

Access Grid (AG) Videoconferencing

  • We can also connect via "Access Grid (AG)".  Call Tyler for details.

Voice/Telephone Conferencing

  • As a backup, and to connect to sites that can only handle voice telephone conference calls, we have integrated a telephone conference system into the room. this system provides a much better telephone conference experience as the audio quality is much better than most other telephone conferencing systems available.

  • Our telephone conference phone number is 403-317-2887.

Portable Conferencing System
(Any Room)

  • Also available is a Portable system that can be used anywhere on campus from small to large groups. With this device a person can participate in a meeting from their office at the U of L with several other people at a remote site.

  • To book this portable system, or if you have questions, please contact us. There is no charge to use the portable system.

  • The E.164 address for the portable system is 3801856@142.66.2.200

HD Videoconferencing

  • Also available is a High Defenition videoconferencing codec. The unit is capable of 720p connections with other HD codecs, as well as connections with Standard Defenition units.

  • To book the HD Codec, or if you have questions, please contact us. There is no charge to use the HD codec.

  • The E.164 address for the HD codec is 3295000@142.66.2.200
