Videoconferencing is an extremely useful technology that can assist teaching, research and administrative meetings. The U of L offers a variety of solutions to provide you with top quality videoconferencing services. The cornerstone of our videoconferencing technology is our VC classroom/ meeting room, B716 (a joint project between Telecom and the Curriculum Re-Development Centre ). B716 utilizes state of the art videoconferencing technology, offering industry standard videoconference connectivity for both point to point and multi-point videoconferencing. B716 is also equipped with an integrated Access Grid system. The Access Grid is a Westgrid funded videoconference system (for more information please visit Westgrid.ca).
Also available is a Portable Tandberg Videoconference System. The system is always set up in L1106 (in the CRDC office), and can accommodate up to 3 people. This solution is ideal for meetings that have very few participants locally. The system is flexible enough that it can be moved to any room on campus with an active internet connection. This system is ideal for meetings that require special space requirements or specific locale needs.
There is no charge to use videoconferencing technology for U of L faculty and staff. Long distance charges will apply when telephone lines are used to make outgoing calls.
