In the early 1930's, Rotary clubs in Alberta and Montana worked together to get their respective governments to establish an international park that would symbolize the friendship and goodwill between Canada and the United States. In 1932 their dream became a reality with the establishment of the Waterton - Glacier International Peace Park, the first of its kind in the world. Each summer, Rotarians from both the United States and Canda gather to celebrate.
The Peace Park has also allowed park managers from Montana and Alberta to work closely together and improve the approach to conservation issues, such as bear mangement, in a way that was not possible before.
