Finding a way to coax Dr. Jane O’Dea to talk about herself as she reflects on 10 years as dean of the Faculty of Education is a lesson in futility. Only within the context of describing the faculty’s achievements will she discuss her stewardship, and even then, she’ll deflect credit away from the individual to that of the collective.

Graduating from high school, Brian Kinahan (BMA ’79), president and CEO of 1st Choice Savings, planned on a year of work and play before settling down to attend university. Due to an unfortunate work accident, Kinahan’s year of adventure quickly lost its appeal.

On Wednesday, Mar. 31, Brett Wilson will be on campus as this year’s guest speaker for the annual CMA Alberta Leadership & Innovation Speaker Series that is organized and hosted by the Faculty of Management.
Greg Christie (BFA ’05) knows his way around graphic design programs. It just so happens he also knows his away around neuroscience research labs. While on paper his polar interests seem like an unlikely pair, in practice Christie’s love of art and science melds perfectly in his research that uses neuroimaging to study addictive behaviours.

With her outgoing personality, quick smile and an eagerness to get involved in the community, Dr. Jackie Rice is not your typical computer scientist. Add to that the fact she is a wife and mother of three, it becomes evident that she is the antithesis of your stereotypical “computer geek”.
As an undergraduate student at the University of Victoria, Rice first realized the hurdles she would have to jump as a woman in a field traditionally dominated by men.
