I thank those of you who attended the Town Hall meeting last week to discuss the University’s 2009-2010 budget and the economic challenges that face post-secondary institutions over the coming years. I am pleased especially that there was such a healthy dialogue about our future because it is essential we have input from all corners of campus as we strive to meet our budgetary goals.

As most of you know, I announced in March that I would be stepping aside as President of our University when my current term expires at the end of June 2010. This was not an easy decision and one that Elsa and I gave much consideration.

Reading Week is now behind us and I trust everyone used the break to advantage.
We are fortunate to have a mid-February respite and it seems to come at a perfect time in the academic cycle. Now, with the days getting longer and spring beckoning just around the corner, my hope is we all feel refreshed for the push to exams and the end of the semester.

A new semester is upon us once again and after a rejuvenating Christmas break, I look forward to an exciting spring at the University of Lethbridge. Welcome to all new students and welcome back continuing students and all of the staff and faculty.

It is hard to fathom the fall semester is coming to a close and we are already preparing for the Christmas break.
I have believed always that Christmas comes at exactly the right time in the academic calendar. We begin the fall semester with much energy and enthusiasm, excited by the promise of new discoveries in our classes and research projects and invigorated by the influx of new people to campus.
