University prepares to celebrate new graduates at Fall 2016 Convocation

The University of Lethbridge is excited to celebrate the hard work and achievements of its newest group of graduates at the Fall 2016 Convocation ceremony, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The U of L will award a total of 240 degrees, diplomas and certificates at the ceremony, with close to 200 students expected to participate in person. The public is welcome to join the festivities, either in person or by watching the streaming version at http://new.livestream.com/uleth/events.

Graduands will be assembling in University Hall starting at 8:30 a.m. The academic procession from University Hall to the 1st Choice Savings Centre begins at 9:50 a.m. Media are welcome to interview graduands between 9 and 9:30 a.m. in University Hall’s sixth floor hallway. Media are also invited to attend the ceremony, which includes the bestowing of an honorary degree, the Board of Governors Teaching Chair, and the Alumnus of the Year award.

Robert Brawn, a successful entrepreneur and valuable contributor to the Canadian energy sector, will receive an honorary degree. Brawn’s enterprises have consistently been regarded as important players in the Canadian energy sector, have employed multiple U of L graduates and been committed to bettering Alberta communities for decades.

Dr. David Slomp of the Faculty of Education will be appointed as a Board of Governors Teaching Chair. Slomp is noted for his expertise in evaluation and assessment and creating educational experiences that prepare his students to become leaders in the classrooms of the future.

The U of L Alumni Association will recognize the Honourable Mr. Justice Ronald A. Skolrood (BA ’83) with the 2016 Alumnus of the Year Award. Skolrood is a highly respected British Columbia judge noted for his integrity and impassioned approach to law.
