Horns' Gallagher wins CIS title

First-year thrower Kayla Gallagher continued her stellar first season with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns track team, being crowned the CIS weight throw champion in the first event of the meet hosted by the University of Alberta.

Heading into the CIS Championship meet, Gallagher was ranked fifth in the country, but a new personal best throw of 18.24 metres earned her the gold medal. The throw was nearly two metres better than her previous personal best and she won the event by almost a metre.

Gallagher is not done at the national meet, and will compete in the shot put event Friday afternoon. She is ranked seventh in the shot put heading into the final.

Fellow Horns' thrower Peter Millman will also compete Friday afternoon in the men's weight throw event.

Selected events will be webcast live daily at www.CIS-SIC.tv.
