Concert lineup announced for Shine On Summer Festival

The University of Lethbridge’s Shine On Summer Festival is excited to announce the lineup of award-winning Canadian musical acts who will take the stage for the Saturday outdoor concert event and fireworks extravaganza.

In partnership with the ENMAX Centre, the City of Lethbridge and presenting sponsors Lethbridge Lodging Association and TD Meloche Monnex, the U of L is thrilled to bring Dallas Smith, Corb Lund and The Washboard Union together for a full evening of musical entertainment.

“The ENMAX Centre is excited to both be a partner and to celebrate with the University on its 50th anniversary with one of the largest outdoor festivals Lethbridge has seen,” says ENMAX Centre General Manager Kim Gallucci. “The current lineup brings together not only talented musicians from across Canada, but they bring a high energy, party atmosphere that makes the festival celebration exciting and something to be a part of. We look forward to additional artist announcements in the coming weeks.”

The Shine On Summer Festival, Sept. 1 to 3 at the U of L Community Stadium, is built around the University’s Alumni Homecoming and is the signature event of the U of L’s 50th anniversary. A three-day festival, it encompasses alumni activities, a community concert, a fireworks show featuring the Canadian National Fireworks Team, and a free community fair highlighting arts, culture, food and drink, song and dance and sporting events for all ages.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the last weekend of summer and our 50th anniversary,” says University of Lethbridge President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mike Mahon. “This is an event for all of southern Alberta and to be able to bring in this all-star cast of musicians is something we’re thrilled about. I’m excited just thinking about seeing our stadium full and experiencing the energy of a true summer festival.”

Tickets for the Sept. 2 concert event are now available to U of L alumni, students, faculty and staff in the form of a limited presale and are priced at $50.00. Tickets will then go on sale to the community on Monday, March 27 at 10 a.m. The special price of $50.00 continues until the first 1,000 tickets sold, or Apr. 7. After that, tickets are available at $75.00 until July 2 and then $95.00. Those with the special U of L code will be able to buy tickets for $65.00. Tickets for children 12-and-under are $49.50.

Following is a look at the current lineup, with more acts to be announced in the coming weeks:

Dallas Smith
A platinum selling country music star, Smith has many JUNO and Canadian Country Music Association nominations and awards. From Vancouver, he is the only Canadian male country artist to be at the top of the Country Airplay Chart for weeks at a time for his single “Wastin’ Gas.” Smith won the 2015 JUNO award for Country Album of the Year and was the CCMA Award winner for Album of the Year with LIFTED. Smith was Keith Urban’s invited special guest and direct support on the Canadian run of the “ripCORD World Tour 2016.”

Corb Lund
A native of southern Alberta, Lund has been singing about everything from loss and love to military songs for years. Lund’s album, Cabin Fever, hit No. 1 in Canada in its first week and made the Polaris Music Prize longlist that helped him gain a foothold in the United States. Miranda Lambert invited Lund to open several stadium shows for her and Dierks Bentley. Lund and his band, The Hurtin’ Albertans, have won a JUNO award and the Canadian Country Music Association named Lund Roots Artist of the Year for seven consecutive years from 2004 to 2010.

The Washboard Union
A relatively new band on the country music scene, The Washboard Union were five-time Country Music Award winners in 2016. Based in Vancouver, The Washboard Union won both the Rising Star and Roots Artist of the Year awards at the Canadian Country Music Awards. They have shared the stage with stars like Keith Urban, Reba McEntire, Dwight Yoakam and more.

Millz Skillz
A DJ bass enthusiast with a versatile mix history, dishing out a balance between nostalgia and new age fire.

Canadian National Fireworks Team
A 20-minute fireworks extravaganza set to music.
