Peer Support

The Teaching Centre helps facilitate a peer support process on campus by matching instructors seeking help with experienced instructors on campus. This may be in the form of one to one meetings or classroom observations.

We also provide peer support opportunities via the [He]art of Teaching drop-in sessions. These sessions are held for two hours with experienced instructors who are willing to sit with you and discuss your teaching needs and concerns. Faculty are identified ahead of time so that you can ensure you are comfortable speaking with the instructors who are present. These sessions are offered throughout the year.

Check our events page upcoming sessions.

Talking About Teaching

These events are meant to encourage discussion amongst the members of the teaching community here at the University of Lethbridge. Session presenters and styles vary from event to event. However, the session do have a few constants. First and foremost, these events are meant to be a forum to share ideas, comments, frustrations, success and experiences about teaching. All instructors and graduate students are welcome to attend these events. We are also aware of conflicting teaching schedules and instructors on satellite campuses, so we provide a live stream to include those who cannot attend in person. Finally, we promote these events as relaxed and informal. Even though we cover some hot-button topics in these sessions, we want the audience to feel comfortable sharing their ideas.

Teaching Day

This is an annual Teaching Centre event that signals the culmination of the teaching year. It is a way to allow faculty and graduate students to celebrate teaching excellence and innovative teaching at the University of Lethbridge. Teaching Day normally takes place the first Friday in May of each year. At the teaching day, we have many activities similar to the Talking About Teaching events, that are geared to generating discussion. We also take time to allow the previous years Teaching Development Fund recipients to share their findings and experience in exploring new and innovative teaching methods, as a way of promoting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning here on campus.
