How to Access Accommodations

Students with disabilities can access accommodations by following these steps:

Step 1. Start this process early. Begin planning 4 to 6 months in advance of attendance.

Step 2. Gather documentation of your disability. Remember to keep a copy of all documents for yourself.

Step 3. Either mail or fax the documentation to:

Disabilities Resource Centre
University of Lethbridge
4401 University Drive W
Lethbridge, AB T1K 3M4
Fax: 403-329-2003

Step 4: Make an appointment with the Disabilities Resource Centre by calling 403-329-2766. It is always easier to discuss accommodation needs after documentation has been reviewed by the Disabilities Resource Centre. The Disabilities Resource Centre is open year round. General inquiries can be emailed to disability.inquiries@uleth.ca; however, appointments should be made by phone. Phone consultations are also possible for those who live out of town.

Step 5: Bring a copy of your documents to the appointment. Your information will be reviewed with you and specific accommodations will be discussed.

Please note that personal and disability-related information is confidential. Your written authorization is necessary prior to any other exchange of information with the university community or funding agencies.

Step 6: You may be eligible for funding for assistive technology and/or services. Based upon your needs, the Disabilities Resource Centre can provide a letter of support to the appropriate funding agency.

Step 7: An accommodation letter is composed by the student with the approval of the Disabilities Resource Centre. Before you meet with the Disabilities Resource Centre, consider what you would like to include in your accommodation letter. The letters are sent to the student’s professors and appropriate administrators. The Disabilities Resource Centre will issue students an accommodation card. The specific accommodations and services are listed on the card.

Step 8: Identify yourself to your professors during the first week of class. If they have not received your accommodation letter, present your accommodation card.

Step 9: If you are eligible for exam accommodations, the exam authorization form should be completed and signed by your professor at least two weeks prior to the exam.
