Introduction to Multimedia
A survey of artistic developments related to the electronic era, the relationship of computer-facilitated arts to traditional genres and a critical examination of selected contemporary works.
Prerequisite: Admission to the B.F.A. (Multimedia) program.
A survey of animation using traditional and contemporary techniques.
Note: Not counted in the 14 core Multimedia courses in the B.F.A. (Multimedia).
Offerings in subject areas dealing with interactive technology.

Creation and manipulation of static images.
Prerequisites: Multimedia 1000, and Art 2030 or 2315.

Multimedia production emphasizing elements of design and incorporating movement, music, typology and storyline. Non-linear editing.
Prerequisite: Multimedia 1000.

Theory and professional practice of 3-D computer modelling, animation, lighting, texturing and rendering.

Seminar presentation on contemporary issues related to multimedia and interactive technology in a critical and theoretical context.

Exercises in script writing. Fundamentals of narratology, style and genre for cinema, games and educational applications.

Design practices and aesthetics for print and the World Wide Web.

Modelling, animation, special effects for gaming, character animation, industrial/ architectural visualization, and internet activity.
Prerequisite: Multimedia 3030.
Creation of interface using materials from original sources to produce user-driven projects.
Prerequisite: Multimedia 3620.
Group project experience emphasizing production with instruction in the following areas: budgeting, team building, software and hardware evaluation, and project marketing and management.
Prerequisite: Multimedia 3620.
Creation of computer facilitated environments. The principles of dramatic interaction, computer-based composition, and sound and movement manipulation.
Prerequisite: Two 3000-level Multimedia courses.
Supervised internship providing direct involvement in the multimedia industry either locally or out of town. Arrangements to be made by the Faculty of Fine Arts internship coordinator.
Prerequisites: Completion of all course requirements for the B.F.A. (Multimedia) program, except for Fine Arts 4060.
Grading: Pass/Fail.
Script development for educational, entertainment and business applications, with an emphasis on script planning and structural formats. Outlining, story boarding and production planning as the genesis of creative writing.
Prerequisite: Multimedia 3420 (2420).
Character animation production process. Storyboarding, lip sync motion capture, data filtering and application, character modelling and animation strategies.
Prerequisite: Multimedia 3620.
