The Shield (shown left) was designed primarily in the University’s colours of blue and gold. The gold sun on the blue shield represents southern Alberta. The University’s motto, ‘Fiat Lux,’ the Latin for ‘Let there be light,’ is lettered on a gold and silver band below the shield.

On June 19, 2003, the Board of Governors approved a new University of Lethbridge graphic identity (shown right), which enhances the key elements of the shield and closely connects the institution’s name with the shield image.
