Immigration Procedures

Canada Immigration Allow at least 30 days for Canada Immigration to process your application for a student visa.

Be prepared to present evidence of adequate funding: Canada Immigration will want to see that you have the equivalent of at least C$10,000 (excluding tuition costs) to cover the costs of your first year of study in Canada.
Student Visa Application Procedures
  1. When students receive a letter of acceptance from an eligible school in Canada they are to complete and submit an application kit to the Canadian Embassy Visa Section as soon as possible, since processing of applications may take up to four weeks.
  2. Students may be required to report for an interview to determine whether they meet the requirements of Canadian Immigration Regulations. The date and time of the interview will be communicated by mail.
  3. Students may be required to undergo a medical examination depending upon course of study and the areas they have resided in the recent past. Detailed instructions along with a list of designated medical practitioners with whom examinations may be taken will be sent to the student by mail. Confirmation of results takes about four weeks from the date of the examination.
  4. If the application is approved, the student will receive a Letter of Approval from the Visa Section. Students must take this letter with them and present it to the Canadian Customs Official upon arrival in Canada. They will be referred to an Immigration Officer who will issue a student authorization. The expiry date is indicated on the authorization along with any special conditions of entry which may be imposed by the Immigration Officer.
  5. After being admitted to Canada, should the student wish to change his/her school or extend his/her stay, he/she is to complete and submit an application to change or vary the terms and conditions of entry to the Canadian Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta as soon as possible. Applications may be obtained at any Canadian Immigration Centre (CIC) listed in telephone books under Government of Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
  6. Students are not to make travel arrangements or depart for Canada without their Letter of Approval since they may be refused entry into Canada.
  7. If the student is a citizen of a country which requires a Visitor's Visa to travel to Canada you will be required to obtain the visa along with the student authorization before you depart for Canada. If a student intends to leave Canada at any time during their course of study, they must ensure that they have a valid visa and student authorization in their passport before returning to Canada.
