International Admission Requirements - Hong Kong

Hong Kong

Admission to the University of Lethbridge is available to qualified applicants from the Peoples' Republic of China (PRC) who have academic credentials from Hong Kong. Students who have qualifications from other parts of China should refer to the page for the PRC.

Secondary Sixth Form admission

Applicants must present Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) with a minimum average of three on the five-point scale on the four core subjects plus two elective subjects and/or other languages

OR

Hong Kong Certificate of Education (HKCE) and the Hong Kong  Advanced Level Examination (HKALE).  Both certificates must include five distinct subjects, one being English, and at least two at the Advanced level. Acceptable grades are A-E at the Advanced level and A-C (1-3) at the Ordinary level. The overall average must be at least 65%.

Transfer admission Transfer applicants who present either of the following are admissible:
  • Acceptable Secondary Sixth Form qualifications (6 year) (see above) and three or more transferable (college/polytechnic/university) courses with a minimum of 50% in each, or
  • Eight or more transferable (college/polytechnic/university) courses with an overall average of 60% and a minimum of 50% in each course.

Transfer applicants presenting two- or three-year diplomas/degrees with a GPA of 65% (equivalent of 2.5 out of 4.0) or higher will also be considered for admission.

Transfer applicants presenting three- and four-year university degrees from recognized universities with a GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0 or higher will be considered for admission to second Bachelor degree programs.

International Baccalaureate qualifications Applicants presenting International Baccalaureate diplomas are eligible for general admission to the University.
English Language Proficiency Not applicable for students whose first language is English.

Immigration Procedures

Canada Immigration Allow at least 40 days for Canada Immigration to process your application for a student visa.

Be prepared to present evidence of adequate funding: Canada Immigration will want to see that you have the equivalent of at least C$10,000 (excluding tuition costs) to cover the costs of your first year of study in Canada.
Student Visa Application Procedures
  1. Complete application forms;
  2. Passport valid for at least 18 months from the date student intends to depart for Canada;
  3. Original letter of acceptance from Canadian education institutions plus one good copy. Students may submit their applications without the letter of acceptance, but the letter must be provided for their applications to be approved;
  4. Receipt for student's tuition fees;
  5. Original or certified true copies of student's transcripts or report cards and public examination certificates (i.e., HKCEE, GCEE, HKALE) for last three years;
  6. An original bank draft or money order for a minimum of Canadian $10,000 in student's own name (this amount may be reduced by the amount of any scholarship or paying fellowships received) or, if student is attending full-time boarding school, proof that all boarding fees have been paid in advance;
  7. Custodianship declaration for students under the age of eighteen;
  8. Original student authorization if students are returning students;
  9. A brief explanation outlining student's reasons for studying in Canada;
  10. Processing fee HK$690 or Cdn$125; and
  11. Two photographs.
