Mentors in Creative Research

In celebration of being named Research University of the Year in the Undergraduate category by Research Infosource, the Office of the Vice President Research is pleased to announce the Mentors in Creative Research (MCR) project grants for Fine Arts.

The MCR project grants are a one-time opportunity, and up to three grants of $3000 will be awarded. Applicants are invited to submit proposals for student-driven creative projects that celebrate research at the University of Lethbridge. Chosen projects will be displayed in Research Services, with a reception to celebrate their unveiling.

Eligibility

Recipients must be members of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the time of application and through the entire grant term. Applicants may be full-time faculty, university-employed curators, or full-time academic assistants whose contract runs through the term of the grant.

Applications must substantially involve an undergraduate student, and projects should be collaborative in nature. Priority will go to applicants who demonstrate clear opportunities for creative mentorship in undertaking the project. At least half of the grant funding should be allocated to a student stipend.

Eligible projects include but are not limited to performance arts, visual arts, and technology.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be adjudicated by a committee of representatives from each department in the Fine Arts. Proposals will be evaluated on the:

  • Clarity and scope of the project;
  • Involvement and collaboration with student(s), and the opportunity for creative mentorship during project’s tenure;
  • Ability of the project to reflect research excellence at the University of Lethbridge; and,
  • Justification of the budget relative to the requirements of the proposed project

Disbursing Grants

The Mentors in Creative Research project grant will provide up to $3,000 in project funding to a maximum of three projects. Grant terms will run from April 15 to October 15, 2013, with a project deadline of October 1. A reception for successful projects will be held in October, 2013.
