SouthVenture Student Business Plan Competition 2012-2013

The SouthVenture is back! The University of Lethbridge is pleased to provide the post-secondary students in the Lethbridge region an opportunity to participate the second SouthVenture Student Business Plan Competition. Students from Lethbridge did exceptional job in the past two years, please check out UofL news in 2011 and 2012.

Do you have a business idea, but don’t necessarily know what’s needed to launch your company? There are many questions when considering a start-up. Issues such as: What are the legal issues with creating a company? Where is the financing going to come from? Am I targeting the right market? This is the competition that can help you get the answers and ensure you learn the fundamentals on how to build a viable business plan!

This year, competition will be organized by Faculty of Management and University-Industry Liaison Office. An educational component consisting condensed training session gets underway on November 1, 2012 at the UofL Markin Hall.

Timeline for competition is as following:

September & October – Promotion to Students

October 26 – Deadline for Event Registration

November 1&2 – Training Event

December 7 – Submission Deadline for First Draft

December 10-14 – Submissions Reviewed by Committee

January 24 – Deadline for Submitting Full Business Plans

February 7 – Finalist Presentations

February 21 – Top 3 Competitors announced at event hosted by U of L

Cost to participate: No cost to post secondary students! Registration information will be avilable soon.

Prize package: Twenty thousand dollars ($20,000)!

The top three from this competition will automatically be eligible to compete in the provincial TEC VenturePrize Student Business Plan Competition. Not only do you have a chance to take top place in the province, you’ll have another opportunity to win additional prizes !
