The sixth round of ORA is based on an agreement among the French National Research Agency (ANR; France), the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG; Germany), the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC; UK) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC; Canada).
With the goals of funding high quality research within their own countries and strengthening international cooperation by working with some of the best researchers internationally, ANR, DFG, ESRC and SSHRC are launching a sixth ORA call for proposals in order to fund the best joint research projects. The scheme will provide funding for integrated projects by researchers coming from at least three of the four subscribing countries.
Proposals may involve any of the disciplines, thematic areas or approaches eligible for SSHRC funding. However, the disciplinary coverage varies according to the involvement of the national agencies. Applicants who are uncertain of whether their proposal would be eligible should contact the relevant national agencies for clarification.
This sixth ORA call will follow a two-stage procedure consisting of an outline proposal and a full proposal. Applicants who are successful at the outline stage will automatically progress to the full stage. Applicants will be invited to submit outline and full proposals at the same time, rather than waiting for the results of the outline stage.
National funding agencies will fund proposals according to their respective policies and regulations and the affiliation of the researchers. Canadian teams participating in successful ORA 6 international projects will be funded by SSHRC based on the funding request outlined in the SSHRC National Financial Form.
ESRC is the coordinating agency for this round. All relevant documents for this funding opportunity are available on ESRC’s website. All proposals for this call will be submitted through the ESRC’s Joint Electronic Submissions system (Je-S). The Je-S system is in English only. However, competition materials (see ORA 6 call documents below) are available in French upon request, and SSHRC-eligible applicants can submit their proposals through the Je-S system in English or French. Applicants who wish to write their proposal in French must contact SSHRC in advance for more details.
Deadline for the submission of proposals is September 11, 2019, 4:00 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time (11:00 a.m. eastern).Proposals submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
