Disclosure

The Principal Investigator completes the Invention Disclosure Form [IDF] in which the inventor(s) are identified and the technology/invention is described in detail.

THESE DOCUMENTS ARE CONFIDENTIAL AND ARE ONLY VIEWED BY THE UILO AND SENIOR LEADERSHIP WHERE APPROPRIATE. THE CONTENTS OF THE IDF ARE NOT REVEALED EXCEPT UNDER A DEFINITIVE CONFIDENTIALTY AGREEMENT OR OTHER CONFIDENTIAL INSTRUMENT THAT WOULD FACILITATE ITS LICENSING OR OTHER CONSIDERATION.

There are two IDFs to choose depending upon the invention disclosed:
Software Disclosure Form
Invention Disclosure Form

Forward the completed IDF and any accompanying documents to the UILO

Please indicate whether you plan to self-commercialize or take advantage of our services to help you build the innovation together and build value through licensing or a startup company

If you plan to self-commercialize, the invention is assigned to the inventor(s) and the process ceases. The inventor(s) will then be fully and solely responsible for any legal costs related to the commercialization process such as intellectual property protection and its continued maintenance.

If you plan to acquire the UILO’s suite of services, then, the disclosure is assigned to the University and the process continues. The University is not obligated to continue with the commercialization process. If the UILO determines not to pursue Intellectual Property protection and any other commercialization endeavours, then, the UILO will inform the inventor(s) of this decision and assign the disclosure to the inventor(s). Please note that the UILO is willing to examine new and subsequent discoveries that may offer value to the previous disclosure. In this case, the UILO would re-open the case and determine suitability for IP protection and commercialization. If the UILO provides the commercialization services under this arrangement, then, the University will support the legal costs associated with the protection and maintenance of the intellectual property protection.

Kindly refer to the Inventions Policy in the Faculty Handbook in regards to the handling of IP, especially, Patents and Copyrights.

**** Please note that a secure online submission process will be implemented to facilitate and accelerate the disclosure process *****
