EASY PAYROLL OR ONE-TIME DONATION:

Visit http://lethbridgeunitedway.ca/ to contribute online or to print and fill out a U of L payroll pledge form.

PLEASE NOTE: The printed form should be forwarded by internal mail to the attention of "Human Resources". They will ensure that the United Way receives a copy. If you have not arranged for last year's payroll deduction to carry on in 2016, you need to fill out another form and send it to Human Resources. Otherwise, your donation will not continue in 2016.

FURTHER INFORMATION:

In 2014-15, faculty and staff donations to the United Way assisted many local organizations to move people out of poverty, to help kids be all that they can be, and to build strong communities in Southern Alberta.

2015 MESSAGE FROM NANCY WALKER

The season of giving is quickly approaching so I wanted to take this time to remind faculty and staff of how important your contributions have been to the United Way of Lethbridge and Southern Alberta.

In 2014-15, faculty and staff collectively donated $7,587 from one-time and payroll deductions. This was a substantial increase over the previous year and while our generosity is improving, I know that we can do better. We simply have to do better.

This season, our community needs you now more than ever. Even though we often feel like we live in one of the safest and most privileged cities in Canada, the gaps between the rich and poor are growing. In the Lethbridge region, the rate of children under the age of six living in low-income families is now 19.2%. This places our community first in the province when it comes to child poverty. This is definitely not a first place finish that we want or should accept.

The United Way helps to bridge these growing divides to create better opportunities for everyone, including children. You can visit our United Way website to learn more about the programs that were supported by your donations in 2014. If you have not donated, please consider this as a way to make a direct difference to families in Lethbridge.

While you are visiting the website, please consider downloading and submitting the annual payroll pledge form or making a one-time donation. I do this every year because I know that this is a tremendous way to ensure that I am contributing to the strong and safe community that we often take for granted.

Payroll pledge forms are being accepted in Human Resources until December 23, 2015. If you would like to assist our efforts to increase our contributions across the university, please contact Laurel Corbiere at laurel.corbiere@uleth.ca.

Sincerely,

Nancy Walker

Vice-President (Finance and Administration)
