Dr. Ben Heppner
Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa

Hailed as the world's finest dramatic tenor, Ben Heppner is one of the pre-eminent singers of his generation.

In 1988, Heppner won the Metropolitan Opera auditions, and it is there that his greatest portrayals have been revealed. Only two years into his international career, Heppner had sung in the world's five leading opera houses - La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, London's Covent Garden, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and the Met in New York.

Acclaimed for his beautiful voice, intelligent musicianship, and keen dramatic sense, Heppner has excelled in a range of challenging roles in the United States and Europe.

Heppner performs regularly with the world's leading orchestras, and his exceptional performances have also been captured in audio recordings, with his first solo CD, Airs Fran├žais, released in 2001. He has made opera recordings for the RCA Red Seal label, Decca, EMI, Sony, and Deutsche Grammophon.

Winner of a Juno Award and two Grammy Awards, Heppner was invested as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2000.

The University of Lethbridge is proud to confer upon Ben Heppner the degree of Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa.
